Because many of my characters are based on real people I wanted to be sure that legally I won’t get bitch slapped for it. On the whole I am making a caricature or transformative representation of the person, and anything else about them is set in the realm of fantasy (regardless whether it was inspired by or based on real events as they will still be set in a way that is again transformative). I also have permission either verbal or signed by a lot of the people the characters are based on.
I am linking articles in case of issues, that cover legal aspects.
As of February 11th 2025 I now have verbal confirmation from John Barrowman directly that he is Okay with me using him as a main character in my comic as (in his words) “it’s your artistic interpretation of me” - he also made it clear he cannot endorse the comic (which I knew) but now I have his permission, I feel free to really delve into focusing on the comic more as I felt somewhat held back until I could get his okay for it.
My carer also witnessed this and here’s some photos taken with him when we were talking about it just for fun ;)
He has also given me permission to talk about my psychic experiences to do with him via his web team many years ago (as long as I don’t make it look like fact) and as this is a huge part of the storyline again it is set in a fictional context even when based on real experiences.
